Kerrang! textual analysis

Image
Kerrang textual analysis Genre conventions The layout of the magazine is bold and the colours contrast with the background making it stand out. These colours used for the magazine are all conventional of the genre as the red yellow and black gives it a rocky edgy feel to it particularly the main cover line 'My Chemical Romance' this would show the importance of the main cover line with it being in front of the main picture making suggesting that the name of their band is more recognisable than the band its self. The masthead of 'Kerrang!' is not the most dominant feature of the front cover as both the main picture and the main title is coving it showing how popular these artists are to the genre and that their return is very important to them. The main image is of the band 'my chemical romance' all the members of them. This pushes the rock genre of the magazine as they are very important to this sort of genre. The facial expression also gives off the r...

This is because on every piece of traditional advertisement has a teenager or someone who is of that age. The advertisement is also suggested to be for teenagers as on the advertisement clothes that teenagers may seem are cool are worn. The film also targets people who like to street dance. This is because this is what the film is mainly about. Street dancers are on very piece of traditional advertisement. They are also doing some very cool dance moves on the advertisement. This could be used to attract a wider audience. Digital: social media, websites. What social media platforms are there?...

Moral panics and regulation

Image
Moral panics and regulation Stanley Cohen: developed Moral panic theory. Moral panic happens when "a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become defined as a threat to societal values and interests". The stages or moral panic 1. someone, something or a group are defined as a threat to social norms or community interests. 2. The threat is then depicted in a simple and recognizable symbol/ form by the media. 3. The portrayal of this symbol rouses public concern. 4. There is a response from authorities and policymakers. 5. The moral panic over the issue results in social changes within the community. For example, BBC going over talking about drill music and talking about how it is bad but it doesn't affect anyone at all. another moral panic was when VHS introduced. As well as the Jamie Bulger case this was when 2 10-year-olds boys beat a 2-year-old kid to death. A moral panic would normally be from an older generation panicking by the action...

Legal and ethical issues

Legal and ethical issues A passive audience is when an audience watching a media thinks that what this media message is is 100% truth full and should be followed. For example, The Wisconsin girls that killed their classmate as they were influenced by slender man. Due to them thinking he was going to kill their family. This was in 2014. An active audience is the opposite of the passive audience when they want to try and interpret what the media text is showing them and try and break it down. Hyoidernuc Needle Theory - Theorises that audiences are essentially passive, and will readily absorb messages relayed to them by the media. - This means that, after watching a violent horror film or playing a violent POV shooter, audience members will be negatively influenced. - This presupposes that audiences are passive rather than active. Desensitised - that is, numbed by the effect of this exposure as well as themes and content. Phycho: Came out in 1960...
