Alexander Lebedev - owns the independent and the Independent on Sunday as of 2010. Now independent is online.

The Sun ownership
owned by News UK, who, in turn, is part of the American mass media conglomerate, news corp. rupert Murdoch is the executive chairman.

Marketing distribution:
The last printed edition of the independent was published on Saturday 26 March 2016 leaving only its digital editions. Independent homepage - note use of pop - up advertising as a means of generating revenue. An online subscription to create revenue for the newspaper.

The sun has their own youtube channel with over 77K subscribers to advertise. They cover cute short storeys about things that don't really matter that much. The Sun also advertise through the TV with above the line advertising as well as their billboards with lots of jokes within them. The sun has its own website with pop up ads being family based adverts.

They both have all the twitter Instagram and Facebook with The independent they have more followers on twitter then the sun because the independent is already based online so they would push this format.

Circulation: Is a count of how many copies of a particular publication are distributed. In short, it's just counting sales.
Readerships: Is an estimate of how many readers a publication has. most publications have more than one reader per copy.

consumption of news brands
90% of adults consume a media brand monthly. This means that the British follow the news very strongly and want to know what's happening. 70% of the adults reading a print newspaper is not the surprising as it lots of them would read them on the commute to their work so for example on the bus or tube as they give them out for free around there.

The weekday newspaper has gone down by 10% due to people being busy and not going out their way to get the newspaper when the Sunday one has gone down but not as much as the weekday one so it shows that the readers have more free time during a Sunday to get the newspaper. They both have gone down due to the internet being used and the convince of it so people are able to get their newspapers or news articles online so they don't have to get the whole paper.

The Sun: This started in the late 60s and had massive sales from when they started they where steadily over 3 million in circulation but then they dropped out of that when 2010 came along. This would be from the technology and the internet being on the rise at this time and this would make lots of the readers want to go online and not have a physical copy of the newspaper but go online.

Evening Standard: The evening standard was very low when it started and then started rising dramatically in 2010. The reason for this would be as they change from selling it to giving them out for free on public transport so lots more people started picking it up as it was convenient and free.

Financial Time: They started in the 1950s and have a very steady increase and they kept on rising and rising getting more purchases until they hit after 2010 they started going down. One reason why they where so consistent with their circulation rising would be from peoples interested in the finance and how people want to know about these shares.

In the Telegraph it would have lots of conservative views points on it showing things more right views that another point of view.

Regulatory bodies
role of IPSO
Independent Press Standards Organisation. Introduced 2014, replacing the press complaints commision
They regulate the content of all press (newspaper) and magazine copy.
Their set rules are in the Editors code of practice all print journalism have to follow it.

From what I learned based on the articles is that IPSO would take complaints from a published Newspaper so they would use the Editors code and investigate and make a judgment about what the newspaper did. If the newspaper did wrong then they would be sanctioned for example they would have to put in an apology meaning they would have to say sorry to the party that they did wrong too and say sorry or retract the statement.

Decoding papers
3 types of reading
Prefered - This is when audiences respond to the product the way media producers want/expect them to.
Negotiated - This is when a member of the audience partly agrees with part of the product.
Oppositional - This is when the audience is in complete disagreement with the message or set of the product.

The prefered reading for this would be for the people want to leave the EU as they are encouraging it to be a good thing
The negotiated reading for the sun would be they would make an informed decision and most likely look at other information and see what they can understand
The opposition would dislike this a lot as they would want to be stay so they would hate the newspaper and boycotte it.
