How has advertising changed over the past twenty years?:

Advertising:
Basic definition: paying for space
Definition: payments from brands in return for the placement of promotional material on pages or during production: could be in the form of commercial breaks, or via product placement.
Product placement: in a media product sometimes, it is not clear that you are being advertised to. The product placement has changed a lot in the UK and seeing a lot more product placement. Example of that is costa coffee and co-op in coronation street.

- Display ads: known as ‘pop up ads’ or ‘banners’ these are visual ads that appear on the third-party website a traditional internet ad.
- Social media ads: very similar to a display ad but would just show up social media like Instagram, Facebook, twitter mini videos pictures and different things on your timeline.
- Search engine marketing (SEM) This would be a paid advert that would come up on the top end of the search result.
- Native advertising is those sponsored listing at the end of blog posts, appearing on your Facebook feed and posted on other social media. It would take you to their Facebook page.
- Remarketing: the best way to market to people who already know about your product and services is to remarket to them or retarget. Depends on who you’re talking to. so, this would be them posting about new products on Facebooks pages. Not very effective for new customer would only really be for customers they already have.
- Video ads: while YouTube ads are the most popular and well known of video ads, there are several different formats, types and content options
- Email marketing: hanging out with display ads back near the start of online advertising, email marketing is a cheaper, faster and effective farm of advertising.
What is the best advertising method:
The social media
One reason why we still have traditional advertising is because the older generation. Another one would be incidental users or listener, a person that isn’t looking for anything.
Above the line adverting
Where mass media is used to promote brands. These include conventional media such as television and radio advertising, print and the internet

ReplyDeleteWhat is here is fine and quite detailed. However, I believe these notes are incomplete, missing out many pieces of terminology. In addition, please consider your layout - these are used for revision afterall! Think colour, images, examples, bold, italics, subheadings.
